Issuance of a student visa

If the period of study is less than six months, you will be issued a temporary student visa. This visa can never be extended or converted into a long-term student visa. This type of visa is issued to exchange students who go to France for a period of less than 6 months and more than 3 months.

A special student visa, marked étudiant-concours, is granted for stays of up to 90 days, for example to enable a student to take an entrance examination. If the student passes the examination and receives final acceptance to the education institution, a long-term student visa will be granted without requiring the student to return to his/her home country. The étudiant-concours visa can be granted when preparatory or additional training is required In order for a student to receive final acceptance to a program.
