Centrale Nantes, a top French engineering school, has been coordinating 2 new Erasmus Mundus Programmes of Excellence since 2024.

In this article, we will look at what are the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Programme, before going into the 2 specific EMJM programmes offered by Centrale Nantes.

What are the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM)?

Before diving into the Centrale Nantes' EMJM programme, let's understand what are the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters. According to the European Commission, the Erasmus Mundus Programme is "a flagship educational initiative of the European Union." As prestigious international masters, the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters allow students to pursue a joint master’s degree by studying at two or more universities in different countries, within Europe and beyond. They involve at least 3 institutions from at least 3 different countries, and multiple associated partners from the academic and non-academic world. Typically, such programmes include periods of study, research, traineeship, thesis preparation and defence.

For these types of programme, scholarships are available to applicants. These masters may also offer full scholarships to the best-ranked students worldwide. Scholarships cover your participation costs and contribute to

  • travel
  • visa
  • a living allowance

When should you apply the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters?

A new batch of selected Erasmus Mundus Masters is added to the list each year. In most cases, you should submit your application between October and January for courses starting the following academic year. Each master's website has all the details about the course of study, the list of the participating universities, the entry requirements and all the steps of the application process (with and without scholarship).

Eligibility

To apply for the Joint Masters or the Scholarship, you must

  • have a bachelor's degree, or be in your last year of bachelor studies
