Film critic since early seventies, Freddie Wong co-founded Phoenix Cine Club. After graduating from Conservatoire Libre Du Cinéma Français in Paris in 1978, he was Alain Corneau’s second assistant director on Série Noire. A leading figure in the development of the film sector between Hong Kong and France, Freddie Wong was awarded title of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by French Ministry of Culture and Communication in 2009. Take this opportunity to learn from our moderator, and learn about Hong Kong, France and global film industries, as well as key creative and technical skills for tomorrow's audiovisual leaders.

Freddie Wong, film critic, part-time lecturer at Academy of Film of Hong Kong Baptist University, Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres

Film critic since early seventies, when he co-founded Phoenix Cine Club. After graduating from Conservatoire Libre Du Cinéma Français in Paris in 1978, he was Alain Corneau’s second assistant director on Série Noire. He worked as Programmer for Hong Kong International Film Festival from 1979 to 1983 before entering Hong Kong film industry as assistant-director, production coordinator and producer. From 1993 until 1995, he headed Film Department of Hong Kong Arts Centre. He then joined Edko Films Limited as Business Development General Manager and also as Director of Broadway Cinémathèque. From 1998 to 2000, he was elected President of Hong Kong Film Critics Society. After that, he worked as Curator of Hong Kong International Film Festival Society from 2000 to 2006. In 2009, he was awarded title of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by French Ministry of Culture and Communication. In 2010, he produced and directed his debut film The Drunkard. He is part-time lecturer at Academy of Film of Hong Kong Baptist University. He recently published his book ( in Chinese ) Travel in Cinema : Cinematic Travelogue, covering some of his film criticism and film festivals reportage over the past 45 years.
